About the Author and Illustrator
Meet the Author:
Alexandra Sanchez was born and raised in New Mexico and currently resides in Albuquerque with her daughters, Okelani and Kamea. She is a fashion designer and entrepreneur, but most importantly a mother/caregiver. As a special needs mom to Okelani, she saw firsthand the lack of books representing special needs kids. That inspired her to write this book, specifically for kids that are wheelchair bound. She wants to give them a fairy tale that includes their wheelchairs and takes them places they never thought possible, if only in their imagination. She also hopes this book will be an icebreaker for other kids to be more interactive with kids in wheelchairs and that have other special needs.
Alexandra is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI)
Meet the Illustrator:
Sheila Fein is an illustrator and a fine artist. She enjoys combining the two disciplines to illustrate and design children’s books. Sheila grew up on Long Island and earned her bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and Fine Art at Buffalo State College. When she is not painting or illustration, she runs drawing workshops called Imaginings Sketch/People Sketchers for artists to study the human figure.
Sheila also teaches privately, helping others to express their own style and imagination. She lives in the Santa Monica Mountains of California with her husband and their chocolate lab, Charlie Sage. Her home is always open to her children, their families, friends, and other artists.
Sheila is a young “Gami” with three grandchildren, Ian, Riley, and Aubrey. Sheila is a PAL (published and listed) member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
